TELEPHONE FREE ZONE

Many of us complaint of interruptions throughout the day by ways of telephone calls.  While we cannot stop external people calling us, we can have some control on inter-departmental telephone calls.  An organisation where I worked decided to have a time zone of two hours where everybody agreed that they would not call another person over the telephone.  They exercised full discipline and restraint to adhere to this discipline.  This gives them a chunk of time when they will not be disturbed by inter-departmental phones.

Another company decided to incorporate a slight modification.  They decided that a person should pick up the telephone within three rings. If he does not pick up within three rings it will be presumed that the other person is either not available in his seat or not in a position to answer the call.  Telephone is a very important tool.  You have to use it for your advantage.
